My two-cents: don't try for the 75 mile leg, if you're asking, it's too far. Always be tethered and think about getting an EPIRB. But most importantly, bring lots of snack food, lol, 'cause thats the only thing you'll have time to eat.
BTW- He on Lake Michigan, not Huron. Isn't SF to Hawaii more than 75mi. ? If he shouldn't try a 75 mi. leg, how'd you get to Hawaii?
