Not really a big deal, since the corrosion usually stops with a fine green patina over the whole surface...however, the corrosion can interfere with the opening and closing action, and a good dry lubricant, like McLube Sailkote is probably better than a grease, since it is far less likely to attract dirt and gum up the action of the spring loaded pin.
