Masks the taste?

Adding chemicals to mask the taste of chemicals? Just doesn't sound right to me. For me, filters do the trick of cleaning out chemicals. But then chemicals get rid of the bacteria and viruses. A long time ago in Central America I used iodine tablets to kill the bad stuff in all my water (a long two years). But that was because Uncle Sam made me do it. I'm just surprised my thyroid glands still function. I'll stick to filters.
