James, while our California cruising was some time ago, it''s my impression that regular reading of Latitude 38 will help you in many ways, only one of which is getting current info on the various CA boating areas and thier regulations. I think you''ll find that practices differ from one harbor to the next since there are so many different regulatory and management agencies representing the State, county, and municipalities.

L38 can be a great resource for newer sailors, I think. Rather than trying to snag one at the local WM store, I would recommend subscribing. (It''s the one subscription we kept, even when cruising offshore for 2 years recently). The third class postage rate is not much money, while the info is excellent and the vibes usually very positive. (
