The Bodum and the Toddy are both acquired tastes, some people like them others can't stand them. If you want a Bodum-type press on the boat, look at campmor.com or other sources for a Nissan stainless-steel model. No glass to break and since it is double-walled, the coffee stays hotter longer.
You can make good "ranch" coffee by just putting the grounds in a pot of nearly (but never quite) boiling water. You need coarser grounds, and a way to settle them (a bit of eggshell or cold water can do it, with some practice) or filter them...but once upon a time there were no drip coffee machines.
If you can still find a vacuum coffee maker (water boils in the bottom pot, rises into the top basket, mixes with the grounds, and settles back into the bottom pot as it cools, assuming you remembered to shut the flame) they make top quality coffee, but they got real scarce once drip makers came out.
