I beleive the P34 was a stub keel/centerboard design, with the bulk of the mass in the stub keel. The centerboard was primarily to generate lift and help prevent leeway.

I actually looked before answering. Didn't look hard enough. Turns out they made two versions of that boat: A "centerboard version" and a "keel version":
