What is the best speed might I use for transiting a canal community and leaving no/minimal wake with a 35-40 foot monohull sailboat?
Background:
We''re looking at property in a canal community in SW Florida and some of the homes are a circuitous 5 nm from open water. That''s too far for me. We
rode through at 4.5 kts in a 20 foot runabout leaving more wake than we should have (it was a guided tour). I believe some of the larger sailboats I have been on left little wake at that speed, but it was not information I filed away. I''m trying to estimate how far "in" the property can be and still have less than 20 minutes to the harbor.
