GPS connection to ICOM M802

Hi,
there is an HF ICOM M802 installed on the boat which I bought used. I know it should show a position as there is a cable plugged into the unit which should provide GPS data. Anyway, that doesn't work and as I intend to buy a second backup GPS unit I want to make sure I'll do the right choice:
Any specific GPS unit recommended with NMEA0183 ver 3.01 outlet (coaxial cable). I am not fancy for a unit with moving map, just display of present position plus data transfer to HF unit required.
Or can I plug a GPS antenna straight into the HF unit?

Furthermore I have slight problems to get a audio signal out of the headphone outlet to plug into PC for HF Fax reception. I tried a normal headphone, but there is only a constant noise, no tones (not even when the tones are clearly audible through speaker). Any comments what could cause the problem?
