I don't know if this is my biggest bonehead move, but at the time it was certainly embarrassing, actually still is. I was heading in to Miami in Government Cut and I was completely unaware of the regulation that if there are 2 or more cruise ships in port you need to go around through the other cut, they at the time did not announce this on the VHF at all. Well... there were 2 ships in port and I got a nice visit from the Coast Guard and their deck gun, meanwhile the old hippie that was crewing for me was out on deck taking pictures of the Coast Guard going "Whoaa man, up close shot!" We did get a nice Coast Guard Escort the rest of the way through instead of having to go around, and the next day they were broadcasting every 15 minutes or so that Government Cut was closed. Also all the people were at the rails of the cruise ships watching, meh at least they got a good show.
