The avon is hypalon and looks to be in good shape for its age, if kept up they can give decades of service. The oar locks are not great, but better than the Achilles which tend to be flimsy, they work better but break often. Rowing either is a chore, my avon is smaller, but still a real work out up wind or in a current. Check the valves, if they are the older style (check on line for photos) they can be hard to fix/replace.

It is hard to tell what the Achilles is made of, if PVC it looks well beyond its usefull life. I am always amused by descriptions of motors like this. If it worked at all the guy would say so, if it is an easy fix why didn't he do it?
