I could be worng, but one of the key differences with masthead and frac rigs that I always thought was ind of universal is that frac rigs tend to have the mast somewhat further forwards in the hull and masthead rigs tend to have the mast sitting further back towards the widest part of the boat.

It would also be nice to have some mention in the video of the times when you would use the backstay to flatten the top part of the sail but leave the bottom part bellied by not hauling the backstay, etc...

When I started filming stuff on my boat, ( I did that when I got bored on ferrying my boat home, and we steered for 4 hours without touching the rudder), I came up with the idea of the movies, for sailnet people. I'm also happy with the camera Giulietta bought me...

My idea was and is, to make a series of videos where a newbie that came here to sailnet, could be directed to stuff like the Backstay, the outhaul, halyard tension etc... etc. to learn and understand what we're talking about...(of course I know and you know that there is also a lot of people out there sailing without the knowledge of the very basic stuff my videos talk about, they just don't admit it ehehehe, so they benefit also), or to have a visual explanation of the stuff they might be asking.

Having that, and since I have a problem conveying a message while writting (you can see that most of the tech stuff I talk in my posts is done with paintbrush sketches or photos, because 1) I am a visual person, 2) a drwing shows what I would need to do with 1000 words and still be poor at it or offend someone here..), the videos are a good tool for me to pass my message.

I also want to leave something in the World, before I go...you know what I mean. (besides my family).

The idea of the videos was to keep it simple, speaking a language a newbie would understand 1st time, and not confusing them too much, for that, they can get in a book..

Therefore, (and I made a warning in the original thread, to old salts, that if you knew the stuff, ignore them, they're not for salty people), the level of language and thecnical depth one gets from these is somewhat shallow, and if you see, before I convey the final message, I go thru a seriess of drawings and arrows and what not, so the basic concept is understood, and the final "kick" is understood if the basis and the "why" things are like they are is also concievable.

I had a long discussion with Jeff one time, and with you now, on the problem of starting to go "deeper" with these. And I understand...I would love to make a video on Carbon sail trim, race tactics or beating ahead of the next guy to the marker...and how to "jump start the race"...this is not the place for that...and rather than helping 100, I would make just good images for 20...as the majority that come here, don't even like to talk to race boat people, being this a cruiser majotiry site.

I could go deeper int the backstay, as in the outhaul etc.

And eventually I will, if God gives me health, I will continue to do these (unless I get tired or people don't watch them), and as each topic is touched, more is understood.

Then, once I have made videos about the basics, I will start going into "level 2" and begin to go deeper into sail center of effort, genoa halyard tension, rig tension, then deeper and deeper into "level 3", and I will start filming duriong some races etc. to show gybing one pole, two pole and the "russian" Yahooooo....., and so on..

I understand and took your comments and they are dully noted, as were Melrna's ones, when she said I did not mention the tell tales on the main..I did forget most people use them on the main...I don't...but will mention that one day...

I think if we keep these movies together, one day we can combine them into one large movie, from start to finish, and have a nice thing.

Now, my only problem is spending my time (and note I am not complaining), to make the videos and then no one sees them...so I judge the "shall I make more" by the amount of feedback I get from you guys..if no one's watching them, I'll just go shoping or to the movies when I am away from my family, as I am now, and spend my time elswhere..before I used to paint and make wooden model boats with my free time, away from home...now I'm here pestering you guys and make my ridiculous movies...ehehehe

Also, please note, when I am home, my participation here is little and no movies are to be expected..

Now, as to the mast placement its not really like that.

I noted your babystay comment, and if the viewers justify my time in the making of these, one day you will see that show up in a video. Its very hard to edit a video, because I am an amateur with windows movie maker...so I will have to make another one, and I have more subjects for now..
