Ughmo seems to have hit it on the head... if TJC were such a great captain and sailor, IMHO, he wouldn't have trouble finding crew.
Yet, here he is, looking for crew that is stupid enough to put up with his conditions—pay your way to the boat, from the boat, and pay to eat.... and yet is competent, skilled, and experienced. Last I checked, the competent, skilled and experienced crew was all out on boats with captains that weren't so cheap as to not feed them, much less make them pay for the experience of sailing. TJC wants slaves, not sailors...and he's having a tough time finding them here.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
