It's probably way too early to find something on the 2008 race, other than the date for it. It's been a very popular bay race for years, although participation is way down (as it is for all racing these days.) It can be a long slog if the winds are light -- or a blast if the winds are good. I've participated in it many times, but not in the last 5 years or so. Overnight distance races aren't necessarily for me anymore, but I'd do it again if the right opportunity came along.
In general, the winds can be OK in the bay proper going down, but tend to die when you turn up the Potomac and then again into the St. Mary's River. It's a major social event on land once down there -- if you don't just collapse for a nap on the hill.
