in April 1974, there was a revolution in Portugal, called the "Carnation revolution", where a bunch of militian officers, tired of the Colonial wars we had going at the same time (Angola, Moçambique, Timor, Guiné, Cabo Verde,São Tomé), and the fact that as militians they were not getting the same treatment as Carrer officers, stopped the Fascit Governement we had until then.
As a result, the country plunged into a decade of uncontrol, and chaos, that lasted almost until 1988.
Anyway, fruit of those "uncontrolled" and multiple governemnt years, a new breed of politicians was born, most with Marxist Leninist ideals, Comunist principles and the majority Socilaistic entrepeneurs (Democrats for you)...
As times changed, we joined the European Union, and most of these "BS politicians" got richer, and even became capitalists...
It funny to see the videos from when in the late seventies they marched, side by side, fists in the air, shouting words of order in strikes, manifestations and political seminars, against the then lords of power and wealth, in the name of the the "labour", and in the name of equality for the work force, and now, 20 years later, most are CEO's and owners of large corporations, and even hardcore ministers and Mayors, and now they are on the other side...completely changed the speech, and now, as rich entrepeneur, they booo the socialists (democrats) they once were...
We call them "vira casacas", which means roughly "turn your coat inside out".....
But you're right, they seem to migrate from Socialist (democratic) to Social Democratic (Republican), as they get richer and the wind blows their boat...I don't know of a case where the opposite happened...
This is what I see in my Country...I don't really care about politics....just what I see...as far as I am concerned...our Socilaists (your democrats) have NO IDEAS, our Social Democrats (repuiblicans for you) have S****Y IDEAS....
They're all the same to me...give me give me give me......
