Generally if you show up at a local yacht club or marina on a weekend and let it be known that you'd like to get into sailing, you should have no problem getting rides.

All you need to do is convince a skipper that you WILL show up on race day, and then do so. Reliability is a big part of this game, and most owners are quite willing to train newbies if they are sure to show up. This scenario is better for them than to pick up some hot shot who only shows up once or twice a season.

Be prepared for the possibility of being "rail meat" the first time or two, but if you keep on showing up with eyes and ears open you will be given more responsibility and will learn more soon enough.

Even though you may not know if you're "into" racing or not, it's a good way to learn the ropes and meet like-minded people.
