Don''t know where in NYC you are, but what worked real well for me when I was starting out is hang around the Yacht Clubs on City Island (there are 4) especially on Wednesday evenings when skippers are looking to fill out their crews for the race series. But you''ll have to speak up and let it be known that you''re looking to learn.
