Would recommend both a vang, to improve sail shape and a boom brake, to help reduce the risk of getting whacked in an unplanned gybe. Boom brake hardware has come down quite a bit in price and is pretty easy to install.

The Scott BoomLock, the Dutchman BoomBrake, and the Wichard BoomBrake are all pretty good and can help prevent bad things from happening. The Wichard is the smallest, lightest, but least versatile of the three. The Scott is a bit more versatile but the most expensive of the lot. I have the Dutchman, which is a the largest, but most versatile IMHO, and reasonably priced.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
