Cam, the base/frame wouldn't need to be fibreglass - it would be a lot easier to build up in timber (mahogany?) and simply sikaflex & bolt to the cabin top.
It is not a difficult job for the home handy-type and a varnished frame might look quite smart in contrast with the gelcoat if the OP so chose.
(Apologies if I seem biased - I have a wooden boat! )
