Your local public library may have books on the topic. They probably have their collection listed online, so you won't have to go unless they have something worth checking out. Howard Chapelle calls the book "American Ship Models and how to build them" by V.R. Grimwood (Bonanza Books, New York, 1942) "...the best in the field of ship modeling". You're likely to find something more modern.
