Perkins and Bottom Paint
The Perkins 4-108 tends to leak some oil when in relatively good condition. You didn''t mention how badly the aft seal was leaking. If it leaks a little, that in it''s self does not mean the engine needs an overhaul.
A better measure might be how many hours are on it. How hard is it to start? Does it show blue or white smoke? Does it run smoothly? Any water in the oil? i.e. some color other than black.
