He got elected to the senate on a platform which opposed the Iraq war so that works for me. If it doesnt for you, then by all means vote for the other guy.
Re; dems and economics - I have to say yes since the only policy I have heard out of the republicans for the past seven years has been to cut taxes (the rationale is different when the economy is good and when it is bad but the policy recommendation is pretty much constant) That isnt much of a policy.
