Ladyhawke, I have had great success with ginger. I always travel with crystalized ginger - the kind you get in produce section with oriental foods. It is tastier than fresh ginger and not as hot. Some recommend ginger capsules but I go for the real thing. Preferable to chew some (a piece about size of finger tip) before getting underway. Keep ginger snaps and ginger ale on hand. If all fails and someone gets sick you can't beat the remedy used by the old Cunard Docs - a good tablespoon of corn syrup, Karo works great.
And, vitamin B1 works as a bug repellant. Ask your pharmacist for dosage and start a few days before needed. An old hunters trick. Have fun.
