I KNOW Giu is channeling your wife! Tell your neighbor that at 30 degrees of heel most of the wind spills out of the sail ....... some people get their jollies by putting the rail in the water, but it really isn't very efficient. It could be also that the neighbor is the kind of dude who screams BOO! because it's fun to scare you! I would be inclined to find a sailmaker who will put in a couple reef points. You will go farther and faster with a reefed sail than a wet sail. With the reef (of course used in strong winds) you will lower the center of effort making the boat more stable and increasing the effectiveness of that effort. You don't need to try it to see, just look at sail racing photographs. All those guys sitting on or leaning over the high rail are trying to make the boat upright, so the wind does not spill out of the top of the sail and they will go faster!
