You can use just about anything for lifelines but it''s hard to swage a terminal onto sta-set x.
Seriously though, there are a number of alternatives to vinyl coated 7x7 wire for lifelines. Many people opt for uncoated 1x19 wire and there are some synthetic materials available as well.
