Since the topic of deliveries has come up again, and since I mentioned the circumnavigation delivery option (which might be something Brak should consider given his disappointing experience with the one-way option), I should also mention that anyone considering this approach needs to check the skipper's credentials and references.

Obviously, the skipper needs to have ocean experience since it's hard to get all the way around without doing some off-shore legs or taking risky short-cuts.

Second -- and this is where the references come in -- make sure you can trust the skipper. There have been a lot of complaints lately by owners that got rooked after contracting for a circumnavigation delivery only to have the skipper pull a "Donald Crowhurst" on them. Instead of completing the circumnavigation as promised some less scrupulous skippers have simply brought the boat over the horizon, then hove-to or anchored up at a nearby island for an appropriate length of time, before sailing back in to their departure/destination port right on schedule. And they still charge the full contracted rate for a 24,000 +/- mile delivery! Some even more dishonest skippers (pirates?) will actually leave the boat anchored away somewhere while they go do another local delivery -- double dipping if you will.

Due diligence is the watchword here!!

Oh, god! I'm dying here! Dying! You, John, are a hoot!
