We also have a decided lack of public common sense.... Don't you think that the whackjobs who are seeking attention would stop doing much of what they do if they knew that it wouldn't get them anything. The kids who shot up Columbine HS were seeking attention. What would happen if the media and public decided that the way to treat these whackjobs and nutcases was to ignore them.... I'm guessing that a lot less people would do these horrific things, since the attention they're seeking wouldn't be found in doing them.
Let's stop going for the lowest common denominator in human behavior... and start rewarding civility and responsibility, rather than rewarding irresponsible and often criminal behaviors.

What we do have more of though, is access to fantasy situations enacted through realistic video games, high-tech media-driven reporting techniques of horrific worldwide events, our children subjected to fictional TV dramas, aggressive reality shows and over-the-top movies available in DVD or cable format.
Some people have difficulty separating reality from fiction.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
