FWIW, unfortunately for Boston there is very little shipping in the shipping lanes nowadays, and absolutely no need for planning a trip around them. Excluding the Boston Harbor main channel, I haven't come within a quarter mile of a ship in Mass Bay in ten years...many days you don't even see one.
