"big" trailerable cruisers? (!)
We now have a 1993 Mac 26 classic that we''ve sailed on NM lakes for the last year. Someday my family will want to move up to something with a bit more creature comfort (a real head, hot water, refrigerator, more privacy, endurance for a few days?).
Will be looking at 26 - 28'' l.o.a., 4000 - 5700 lbs. displacement. Plan to trailer several times a year behind Expedition with small V8, boat will spend some time in mast-up/yard storage and marina, mostly lake sailing with occasional venture to salt water.
Moderate to intermediate experience -- I grew up on coast and spouse & I took ASA classes but we haven''t been offshore much and my crew still get a bit mutinous when conditions become lively.
Boat should be comfortable but not a total pig under sail. Should be trailer-launchable by small crew without too much agony or splashing around (would be stepping mast several times/year). Probably would buy used since spending a small fortune on a trailerable seems a bit silly, but don''t want junk or something with huge appetite for maintenance. Want comfort and enjoyable sailing but don''t need acres of brightwork.
Any ideas? Anybody have experience, good, bad, ugly, or otherwise, with "big pocket" cruisers?
