The War on Terror, is an open ended conflict against a theological ideaology. As such, there is no quantifiable point at which it can be said to be won, short of the elimination of all who espouse it, or making them incapable of further their aims. I believe Bush is, and was, well aware it would not be over during his Presidency, or even in his lifetime.
Selfishly, I'm quite happy to have the violence happening in Iraq and Afghanistan, rather than on American soil. Because, I have no doubt what-so-ever, there will be violence. To think otherwise, in light of both the Islamic terrorist's words and deeds, is at best, naive.
