Yea, Chapman''s is pretty much the bible as far as all the stuff you need to know, like how to use the radio, what do different lights mean, how to do costal piloting etc.

Heavy Weather Sailing is also at the top of the list... just in case.

A few more suggestions, Single-handed sailing by Henderson (I think) covers a lot of stuff covered in Heavy Weather Sailing but some additional stuff for people who might single-hand or short-hand a boat.

Choosing a Cruising Sailboat - if you want to understand what the various design considerations are for different types of boats.

For books about sailing, not necessarily how to sail, ready everything by Bernard Moitessier, particularly The Long Way. And Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum.

A friend of mine recommended a how to book written by Colgate (yes, I think the toothpaste guy) who also started the hugely successful Colgate sailing method/school.
