Definitely a trap... get her something nice, and a mainsail. Since she asked for the mainsail, she can't complain that you bought it for her, and what she'll remember is the nice thing that you got her in addition to the mainsail... and you'll have a new mainsail and a happy wife. I've never heard a woman honestly complain that you spent too much on her birthday gift.
