Hello from Southeastern Ontario

Hello all,

Here's the story on me: I started sailing on the Bay of Quinte in my late teens on a Sparkman and Stephens boat named Stormy Weather. I consider myself extremely lucky to have sailed on such a boat. After Stormy was sold to Europe, I sailed occasionally on different boats. As time passed, I found that my sailing friends moved away, started families etc. and I was sailing less and less. A couple of years ago, my girlfriend and I decided that we wanted to have our own boat so that we could sail when we wanted to, and we could have the pleasure of taking others sailing. So we bought a Shark (#337, the Lake Ontario variety).

The last couple of years have been quite an experience. We have had to learn many things about boat repair/maintenance. Also, I have had the experience of being the skipper. This has been tough at times. It stressed me out the first time I was on the boat and I realized that the crew would be looking to me as the final authority when something went wrong. I even wondered if this boat thing was a good idea. Since then we have been sailing regularly, and I have been learning as much as I can. I have come to the realization that even though I am an inexperienced sailor by anyone's standards, I acquired a lot of good habits as far as safety and seamanship during my time on Stormy. I am now thoroughly enjoying our boat, and I am looking forward to our sailing future.
