Next time you are out .. do the opposite. When you are off the wind .. furl your
jib completely and sail under main alone. Work your outhaul and vang to maximize your speed (as Jim suggested). Once done .. then start adding
jib and see what happens.
I think you'll learn a lot about your boat's off wind performance and balanced combinations if you do that.
