sails well in light air AND heavy weather?
The answer is complicated but in the short form in order to get good performance in both light air and heavy, you want a boat with a low VCG, an easily driven hull, moderate to low form stability, low wetted surface, comparatively fine entry and enough bearing aft to get good performance power reaching, a D/L below 160 and a SA/D above 22, an easy to depower sail plan and a deck layout that minimizes the chances of down flooding.
