I was just at the light house yesterday in Montauk and there was some pretty heavy fog from early morning till about 3 or 4 in the afternoon. It was weird because if you looked north west toward Orient Point or Gardiners Bay, it was a clear sunny day but if you looked east toward Block there was a huge wall of fog. I think you will be fine though if you check the weather forcast frequently before you go and if you wait till after any morning fog burns off. I made the trip last year and it was a great one.
