Thanks RichNH. I never really like sharing my mast breaking ceremony on the power lines as it seemed a bit like an attempt at a Darwin award. Mine was over 20 years ago but it is still somewhat humbling to recall and sounds a bit like your account (although I will admit that rain and alcohol were involved with mine). A decent metal shop was able to re-weld the mast together which had broken at the deck ('keel stepped' mast on a 14' Viking sailboat, circa 1950 something). It was never quite true after that but it was just a fun boat with no stays. Not something I would want to try on the ocean but really easy to rig. I still have it but don't use it enough. The trailer requires more maintenance then the boat.
You are brave to have a wooden boat in the first place. A Snipe is about the same size as my little day sailor but it is ancient fiberglass and not a woodie.
I also liked the spinnaker story/lesson.
