While I like Block, its kinda out of the way for this trip. The key time factor in the Cuttyhunk to Vineyard Sound trip is catching the correct tide. Break out your Eldridge and you will find that sometimes the tide is running against you on the Vineyard Sound side and with you on the Buzzards Bay side. You can use of the "holes" (Quick''s, Robinson''s) to switch quite easily from one size to the other. Also, if you hug the coast (mind the depth, rocks, etc) the negative tidal effect should be reduced somewhat. The tide really rips in these areas so be sure to plan your trip accordingly. Good luck. Vineyard Haven is pleasant but I wud hump it the extra time and goto edgartown.
