I quite agree. We have gone with my brother in law and his family on their 20' Sea Ray on Lake George, NY. It got quite boring unless we were actually going somewhere, to a destination. Even the tubing got old quite fast! Waves that would not even phase the sailor would make for an uncomfortable ride. The planing hull would crash and bang over the wavelets.
That said, how we would use it would be as a way to quickly get to a destination for an evening. To go to Fells Point for dinner.
What I don't know is what hull characteristics I should be looking for. My brother-in-law suggested a deck boat and I've seen the tri-maran versions which look like it would be very stable. Would that be best to handle the waves of the Patapsco River and/or Chesapeake Bay? Someone suggested a deep V hull shape rather than the flat planing hull. Friends have a 16' C-Dory and they love it but it is very pricey. Also, I don't see any used around and I am not looking to buy new.
At this point, we are not ready to buy, just looking to learn about our options. Thanks to all who respond!
