Sounds a lot more like they had somebody in with a different viewpoint to me. Unless of course, you can show a 20 year history of such "damning rhetoric".
Is there any flimsy straw you won't grab at? Working together for 3 years with a unrepentant terrorist isn't a relationship, but ONE sermon is? Puh-lease!
But then, when your guy says that running a political campaign is more experience than running a state, I guess you don't have a lot of options. And just how silly is it, that he seems to be running against the VP instead of the Presidential nominee?
