As a side note, the B&G autopilot has an excellent "Wind Mode" feature. You basically choose your wind angle and set the offset. The boat will sail perfectly to weather while on autopilot. It'll even recognize wind shifts nicely.

Thanks for the kind offer but it's too late, I've just filled up on
Raymarine. The wind function on my autopilot (Raymarine ST6001) also takes it's feed from the wind speed transducer at the masthead and steers to the wind.
I haven't used it yet because I reckon it's only really of value when you're on a longish voyage and sailing on the wind. If you're running downwind, the shifts generally don't mess too much with the trim and under those conditions I prefer to sail my course than to wander around with each shift.
