The richest nation on earth with the world's largest economy is concerned that unemployment might reach commonly accepted levels seen in Europe and that people might get thrown out of their houses to live in apartments that are superior to what most of the developed world lives within. Oh, and they have this minor issue that an entire religious movement, with a global reach, wants them dead coupled with the existence of a few less than stable world leaders who want to have the bomb just to see how they might be able to remake the world. Gee, which issue sounds more serious to you?
Does the fact that most of the rest of the world look upon foreign policy with a "let the US handle it" view affect your thinking in any way? We can debate how we got to
that point until the cows come home without addressing what the US should actually do in an unsafe world. I'm inclined to think that isolationism is no more the answer today than it was in the 1930's.
