Great suggestion. Did you recommend a mechanical kitchen timer one, or an electric/LCD one? Also, what did you set the timer for (5 minutes, maybe)?

During my flying days, I added a headphone jack and LED light to an electric kitchen timer. When hooked up to the intercom, it worked great for timing approaches. My flight instructor went on to use it when flying banking checks at night.
