What the MSM see, and frightens them, about Palin, is a fresh, outside the box, articulate (as she showed by the end of the campaign) person, with the ability to rev up the GOP base. With poll numbers after the election showing 91% approval among Republicans and record Nielsen numbers whenever she appeared on TV, she has a leg up on 2012 ...... should she decide to run.
Should the next two years prove to be good ones for Alaska, and she runs for re-election (rather than for the Senate) and wins easily, then she'll be the de facto front runner. And, as another "historic" candidate, she has that cachet going for her as well.
Scoff if you want, but beating the most popular Dem in Alaska (Tony Knowles) for Governor says a lot about her ability to appeal to a broad segement of the population. Pair her up with one of the other rising stars in the GOP like Jindal or Cantor, and you could have a very potent combo. Particularly if things are still going badly in the economy by then.
