The flying Moth

While looking at boats on utube I came across some videos of boast called Flying Moths, Some appear to be home built?
What is the history behind these boats? What stile rig is that? Do folks build these at home?

Any one here built or sail one?

The small size and speed are quite attractive to me, Not to mention the hydrofoil. I'm a sucker for tricky fast stuff.
Thanks

For those that that haven't seen one.

I want one, What's it take to build one? Dose it break down? IE can you put in in the back of a wagon? Could you build a trailer and pull two?

Umm...they're both homebuilt and production versions of Moth Foilers, as these odd beasties are called. They're tricky to keep up on the foils... I've face planted one... :) Don't try tacking one when it is up on foils, you're almost guaranteed to dump off the foils...

Well I'm a bit past 20... But i'm light.

SD in the video it shows multiple tacks while foiling.

When I go to the site all is well until I click on building a moth. The attachment just opens as binary code?

Any ideas? Dose it work for you guys?

There is a fleet of moths in my area. Lots of info on sailinganarchy (if you can handle the profanity and soft porn that is particularly prevalent on the moth threads). Fast, fun, expensive. They can be tacked on the foils, keeping in mind the guys you see doing it are the Lance Armstrongs of the sailing world. They are unsailable in light air and I have witnessed them go from sailing on the foils to turtled in about 3 secs. I believe some are home built, but that does not make them cheep.

My advice on not tacking a Moth Foiler is based on people of average sailing ability... since, if it isn't done perfectly, you lose enough speed and drop off the foils... and if you do it badly enough, you face plant the boat. :)

Any one got info on what appears to be the flexible mast?

3 seconds, plenty of time. That's almost forever.....

Now the expensive part DOSE worry me.
Any one wanna shoot a ballpark figure?
Thanks for looking and happy holidays!
