Ketch/Yawl Handling

The high cut jibs are a throw back to another era. It allowed the sail cloth to be used in its strongest direction and in the days before winches made the sail easier to tack. It also had the advantage of not catching a wave in its skirts as a jib tacked on the end of a bowsprit was bound to spend a lot of time in the wave tops when driven hard to windward in a steep seaway.
