Thank you for your criticism. You are correct: "force" was a terrible choice of words. It felt wrong then, and is even more glaring seeing it here. "Encourage" is a much better word, and closer to my true thoughts. I couldn't leave this thread with that glaring error. Thanks again.
This thread has made it plain that there is little common ground between those who think that the government can solve problems, and those who think the government is the problem. But from the Ninth Ward of New Orleans to the management at AIG, when things go into the crapper, people turn to the government, like it or not. Maybe we should insist that, when the government responds, their response is competent.
