Wood for Bowspirt?

I have removed a small teak bowsprit from my Columbia 26. Someone added it as an afterthought, but it does hold the anchor, and there can be a good bit of stress on it when anchored. I am going to replace it, and was wondering what the best wood is to use, if other than teak? I have seen a few in looking around, and ash and black walnut were the only 2 other than teak. Any ideas?
