Wood for Bowspirt?

I have a real sail carrying bowsprit its fir but its also 8" by 8" (for real, not like a 2"x4" that is actually 1.75" by 3.5")at the base.

White Oak is strong and rot resistant. Hoduras mahogony is also good, Phillipine softer and not as good. Black Locust might work as well, its also strong and rot resistant.

All the good, strong rot resistant wood is expensive. If you do go for oak make sure its not red oak, that is very strong but rots in no time.

Good luck
