The President is wise to go after the small group of economists who believe that the government is making matters worse by spending all this money, he has done a good job of identifying his most potent strategic adversary and going after them directly, mentioning them no less than 5 times in his speech this evening. He was also wise to keep focusing on urgency and "now" and to avoid talking about what it means in the long term. I think the only thing he said about the long term was some vague words about "after the economy stabalizes" that, I can't remember the exact words, something like we'll have to look at our long term budget and work it out - he certainly didn't mention currency devaluation or long term interest rates, his plan's kryptonite.
I thought it was a good speech and Q&A afterward, the President was pretty honest and straightforward. The President did a good job of trying to justify government involvement via the stimulus plan, what he said was very smart. Wrong, but smart.
