Andy, it just occurred to me that there might be a set screw or 2 on the housing of the deck connector. If there are, unscrew them with a small screw driver. That might allow the housing to lift off the deck easily. Also, since you have only the one connector to port of the maststep, you can use the 4-conductor setup you suggested earlier to replace the 2-conductor setup you have now.
Once you have removed the deck connector, drill thru the headliner from above and pull the 2 existing wires down into the cabin. You can then hook up a couple switches at or near the compression post to operate masthead, steaming and deck lights. You will feed 4 wires (1 ground and 3 hot) up thru the hole and into the female deck connector.
Catalina Direct offers a wiring harness for the lights, if you don't want to do the wiring yourself. Check out their website or consult the handbook that they provide. Let me know how it goes.
p.s. If your existing wires are corroded, don't use them. Just run wire back to the power panel as we discussed above.
